Brown Bag Mystery
We’re excited for the 2026 Brown Bag Mystery, Two Step Tango, designed by Karen Montgomery to get rolling! This year's quilt is going to knock your socks off.
Our initial round of mystery kits will be posted on our website on Friday, January 30, 2026. There will also be backing, border and binding kits available to add to your project. Jenny will be going live multiple times this weekend to tell you all about this fantastic program and show off a large variety of bag options.
Watch us Live Friday 1/30, Saturday 1/31, Sunday 2/1, and Monday 2/2 at 12:15 CST on our app, website, or Facebook.
What’s Inside the Bag: The fabric shown in the product photo will be included in your Brown Bag and serves as the inspiration for the entire quilt. Each kit contains 6 1/2 yards of coordinating fabric, creating a finished quilt size of 60" x 60" (not including borders). Border, binding, and backing fabrics are sold separately.
How the Mystery Works: You’ll receive cutting instructions right away so you can get started. Assembly clues are mailed every two weeks, for a total of five clues, with the final mailing containing full assembly instructions. Clues are mailed from Central Iowa, so please allow up to two weeks for delivery and be sure to include your preferred mailing address at checkout.
Clue mailing dates: March 20, April 3, April 17, May 1, and May 15, 2026.
Stitch Along With Quilters Nationwide: You’re invited to stitch along with quilters from across the country in a private national Facebook group. Instructions to join are included in your bag, and Karen Montgomery will begin admitting participants on February 6, 2026. Karen’s first clue presentation will take place in the group on March 21, 2026, the first official weekend of stitching. Pattern pieces are mailed with each clue, so you will not have a paper pattern at the start.
Tools & Extras: Karen will be teaching using foundation papers and/or rulers. One set of foundation papers will carry you through the entire quilt and the bonus project. If you prefer rulers, you’ll want a set of Crazier Eighths templates, Triangle Squared and Perfect Rectangle, and either a Folded Corner Clipper or the Multi Size Triangle 45° & 90° ruler used in a previous Brown Bag Mystery. All rulers are Creative Grids and sold separately below.
